From the Beach to Gregorian Chants...

May 3, 2012

Our last morning in Riomaggiore.  It makes me a little sad L  However, the kids are excited because it is a beach morning J  It was cloudy as we were packing up and checking out, but the sun came out just in time for us to head to the beach.  Danika and Jason wasted no time jumping right in, even though the water seemed cold to me.

The sea is much calmer today.  The boat in the background is one of the ferry boats we took and it was bouncing up and down on the waves yesterday.

This is the beach looking the other direction.  We were surprised that we were the only ones there because it was packed earlier in the week.

Danika getting cozy warm…

Then the kids decided to move away and have their own castle…

Once the kids had dried off and we had a few hours in the sun, we all were ready to drive to Florence.  I was surprised when the Italian Appenines jumped into view.  I barely had time to get out my camera…

We arrived in Florence and are staying at our favorite convent.  We checked in and then headed out to the San Miniato church to hear the Gregorian chants.  The church is beautiful.

We went inside and listened to the Gregorian chants.  It was lovely listening to their harmonious voices.

The views from the church were stunning along the Arno…

We walked down a bit and found a map of Florence along with the view.  Jason enjoyed pointing things out.

Then we had a 45 minute walk to a trattoria (Trattoria Sabatino) that had the best meal we have had since we’ve been here.  It is definitely off the beaten path, but worth the walk.  I guess we were too hungry to think about taking pictures… such a shame.

We took a nice long hour amble back to the convent.  Lights out as we have an early morning tomorrow.
