Kirk and Stephanie arrive...

May 13, 3012

Today we drove to a place called Umbertide to have brunch at La Capannine Sommavilla, something our friend Kathy Simon told us was one of her favorite things to do in Umbria.  Even though the forcast was for rain the entire day, the countryside was still gorgeous.  We began our drive heading up the hills overlooking Lake Trasimeno.  It is the 4th largest lake in Italy and is only 20 minutes away from Perugia.

Then we headed into the hills through farmland and lots of cottonwoods.

When we arrived at La Campania, we were a bit early, so the kids hung out playing with the dog, Basil.  The aroma coming from the restaurant was amazing.

We met up with some friends from college, Stephanie and Kirk Fischer, that I hadn’t seen in a couple of decades!  They were in Italy for their wedding anniversary, so they met us at the restaurant.

You know, it is amazing to me that you can meet up with people you haven’t seen in such a long time and feel like you just picked up where you left off.  It was so comfortable.  I guess it says a lot about Kirk and Steph because I had such a great time with them.  In fact, such a great time that I completely forgot about the camera and didn’t take any pictures at brunch.  Fortunately, we stopped for a picture overlooking the lake on our way back to Perugia.

Of course we had to have them follow us through the narrow streets of Perugia where we had to fold our wing mirrors in…

We brought them back to our place and spent another long while just chatting.  Snapped a pic on the balcony just to prove they were here…

Then we took them for a little walk around Perugia’s Historical Center before going to dinner at our favorite pizza place, Pizza Mediterrania.  Again, lack of pictures, but it was really nice just talking.

How wonderful it was to catch up with what they had been up to, how things had changed, all about their kids, and looking forward to seeing them again back in the states.

We feel so blessed to be able to spend time with friends, and who would have ever thought it would be in Italy???
