Petersen Adventure - Day 5, Cortona

April 7, 2012

Today was our day to go to Cortona.  This is the location of the set of the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun” and also where the original “Bramasole” house is, owned by the author of the book, Frances Mayes.  David and I have read the book while we have been in Italy, and have gleaned some great easy recipes from it.

Unfortunately our weather luck didn’t hold up as well today.  It was pouring rain when we arrived and we ended up eating our lunch in the car instead of in the beautiful park.  However, after lunch, we were able to take a walk through the streets as the rain lessoned to a drizzle.

Cortona is a bit of a touristy town, but it has a lovely park that stretches across the hill affording a twenty minute walk with incredible views…  It was cold, but we did manage a short walk in the park.

After that we drove around to see Bramasole…

Then we headed to a hike in search of an old Roman Road.  We didn’t get far into the hike when we heard the thunder closing in, so we headed back to the car.

Still, we didn’t let the cold weather deter us from having a last Gelato with Michelle and Susan back in Perugia… We just made sure they were warm enough to enjoy it by making them wear our down jackets J We chatted with the owner for quite some time.  It was nice to finally speak with someone who would speak to us in Italian instead of English...

"Delicioso" (Italian for "delicious"...the finger in the cheek is required in Italy for this word!)

We decided to take the underground escalators back to the apartment.  It was great because we were able to show Michelle and Susan the secret underground Perugia…

Off to bed as tomorrow is Easter and we are getting up early to drive Michelle and Susan to the Rome airport.
